Workstation Management

Initial Configuration

  1. Computer name (Service tag number)
  2. Connect to Domain
    • monterey.mcgilloway-ray.com
    • salinas.mcgilloway-ray.com
  3. Configure Active Directory on Server
    1. Move workstation from “Computers” into “Domain Workstations” or another more appropriate container
    2. Set AD Description to “Purchased 20XX”
    3. Set AD Location to “Room XXX”
  4. Run “gpupdate /force” and reboot
  5. Document in Computer Inventory Excel Sheet
    • G:\Data\Firm\Computers
    • icDocumentation.info

Login as Domain Administrator

  1. Google Chrome
  2. Avast Anti-Virus
    • F:\installs\Avast
  3. Word & Excel
    • If Office came preinstalled on new machine
      • It will be the Click-to-Run version which will not integrate with File Cabinet, Engagement, etc.
      • Open the Control Panel and uninstall Office before proceeding
    • Go to http://webmail.icExchange.info
      • Login as a user who has Office privileges into the Services tab
      • Click Office Apps, and download the 32-bit version
      • The downloaded installer will only work for the user that downloaded it (don't put it in the F drive)

  4. Java
    • Go to https://adoptopenjdk.net/
    • Press the button to show Other Platforms
    • Select the newest LTS (Long Term Solution)
      • Leave it on the Hot Spot JVM
    • Download the 32-bit Windows JRE MSI and run it
      • Leave all the options at their default
    • Download the 64-bit Windows JRE MSI and run it
      • Enable all of the options
  5. TaxTools - Most current year
    • F:\CFSlib\tt200x\wssetup\setup.exe
  6. Time Value for Windows
    • F:\tvalue5\Tvalue5 client setup.exe
  7. Lacerte – Most current 3 years
    • F:\lacerte\xxtax\taxsetup (yes, the shortcut)
    • If a Java error occurs run jresetup.msi
  8. File Cabinet CS
    • F:\Wincsi\Cabinet\desktop\setup.exe
  9. Practice CS
    • F:\wincsi\Practice CS\Desktop\setup.exe
    • Yes, restart it if it asks
  10. Accounting CS
    • F:\wincsi\Accounting CS\desktop\setup.exe
    • If redistributable error, denote the name and uninstall all with that name and run install again
  11. Checkpoint Tools? (see password vault)
  12. QuickBooks?
  13. Remove all items in C:\Users\Public\Desktop
  14. Remove any unneeded items from Downloads
  15. Reboot

Login as User

  1. Drive letters Present?
  2. Word & Excel
  3. Adobe Standard
  4. Engagement?
    1. Browse to \\server-engagement2017.salinas.mcgilloway-ray.com\Engagement CD Image
    2. Install the newest SQL Express
      • Use the instance installer
    3. Run PfxEngSetup.exe
  5. Windows Update, also update other Microsoft products
  6. Drive F okay?
    1. Delete the 3 keys in HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/MountPoint2
    2. Reboot (don't just do a gpupate!)
