Retire a workstation

Explicitly retiring a workstation is required to maintain a list of active computers and to prevent someone from using an unauthorized computer to gain access to the network.

  1. In Active Directory, move the computer from the Domain Workstations Organization Unit into Domain Workstations – Retired
  2. Reboot the workstation
    • Some software (like Avast and Foxit) will be automatically removed by the Global Policy during boot
  3. Disable Avast for the computer using the online administration tool

If someone signs in to a retired workstation, they will not be able to access any network resource and will be presented with a message to talk to IT.
