Explicitly retiring a workstation is required to maintain a list of active computers and to prevent someone from using an unauthorized computer to gain access to the network.
- In Active Directory, move the computer from the Domain Workstations Organization Unit into Domain Workstations – Retired
- Reboot the workstation
- Some software (like Avast and Foxit) will be automatically removed by the Global Policy during boot
- Disable Avast for the computer using the online administration tool
If someone signs in to a retired workstation, they will not be able to access any network resource and will be presented with a message to talk to IT.
