It is important to fully sign out when done working, especially when working remotely. Simply disconnecting from a resource can prevent upgrades and backups of files that remain open/locked.
Remote Desktop Servers
Even though the Remote Desktop Servers look quite similar to Windows 10, care must be taken to not simply close the Remote Desktop Connection application. Always sign out of any/all remote desktop servers before signing out or shutting down your local machine!
To sign out of a Remote Desktop Server, simply press the Windows button on the keyboard or the Windows icon at the bottom-left corner of the screen, tap the top-most icon on the left (the avatar), and select Sign out.
Windows 10
To sign out of a Windows 10 machine, simply press the Windows button on the keyboard or the Windows icon at the bottom-left corner of the screen, tap the top-most icon on the left (the avatar), and select Sign out.
Windows 11
It may be difficult for Windows 10 users to find where to sign out of a Windows 11 machine but it is just as easy to use once they know where it is. Simply press the Windows button on the keyboard or the Windows icon at the bottom of the screen, tap your name, and select Sign out.
